Body and Water

January 20, 2011

We were often told to drink plenty of water daily. Ideally, 8 glasses of water. Sadly in the Philippines, as I observed, water takes the backseat compared to cola and juices. Studies say that any liquid we drink that is not water, takes the same amount of water off our body. Meaning if you completely substitute water with cola, you’ll have a water deficit. Not only do we need to meet the recommended intake but water should stay in our body long enough to nourish our system.

There are instances however that we need to increase urine flow. Particularly in cases of edema, kidney failure, and glaucoma where removal of excess water, salt, and other wastes help relieves patients. Diuretic food will help make this happen. You can click here for more food that reduces water retention.

Fit For The New Year

January 12, 2011

With the new year, resolutions were again formulated and most probably than not, it includes being fit. Studies say that gym memberships spike up every January but gym attendance starts to dwindle down by end of February. There could probably be several reasons for this but I guess the most common is that results do not show immediately as expected.

Contrary to what some people believe, being fit is not all about going to the gym. It also involves the right diet. If the latter is not kept in check, regularly visiting the gym may be futile. Discipline will definitely play a big role in this quest and more than taming the body, it is a must to tame the will as well.

Changing For The Better

October 27, 2010

All people naturally desires to have good health. But such desire dies naturally we equate health with workouts and diets. Such actions do require a strong will and tons of sweat but there are also small changes that we can make to improve our health.

1. Flossing. Plaques form on hard to reach areas on our teeth. Such bacteria eats away the bone that holds the teeth in place and can enter our bloodstream.

2. Eat every 2 to 3 hours. Less meals doesn’t translate to less weight. In fact, the more we deprive ourselves of food, the greater is the tendency for us to do binge eating. Eat often throughout the day but with lesser portions.

3. Lessen your trip to coffee shops. Make your own coffee at home. With this, you need not fall to the temptation of ordering for a doughnut and loaves.

4. Carry a pedometer. Being aware on how much you move each day can motivate you to move more.

5. Sleep with your workout clothes. Some find it a bit of a hassle to prepare for a jog in the early morning. So prepare in the evening before.
