Trillanes? Not Again!

November 29 Headlines!
Trillanes and Lim Call for GMA to Step Down
Despite what others thought of your fanatical ideals during the Oakwood mutiny, I admired you and your companions’ bravery for standing up against the corruption you have learned. Immature as some might think, I guess it is but natural to rebel against our parents at some point of growing up. I guess you were left with no other choice then but to pack your things and run away.
I was never a Machiavellian. I support your cause but I do not approve of your means.
The Sun Shines On Body Art Lovers
November 20, 2007
I have always contemplated on having a Japanese Kanji or a tribal tattoo. However, this plan has never materialized because of the culture existing in the Philippines in regards to tattoos.
Years ago, tattoos were very much associated with convicted criminals. It is a thing common only for the inmates. Though I feel that we have grown mature in regards to this view, the fact remains that tattoos can still stand between you and your prospective employer.
However, Neil Crespi observed that there is a thriving tattoo scene especially in San Diego. This is all thanks to the city’s warm weather and beach which provides a venue for body art enthusiasts to show off their inks. Tattoo artists have flocked together in the city and as common to people sharing the same passion, they have all treated each other as friends rather than competitors.
Weight Concerns Men As Well
November 20, 2007
A few years back, you only hear women complaining on how heavy they’ve become. Now, the same concern is being echoed by men as well. Imagine me and a guy friend trying to lose weight in time for our friend’s wedding this coming December. Haha!
Society has conditioned our minds to envy those who are slim. Images of buff and sexy models high on a billboard pedestal populate the main avenue of the metro. This thinking made its way to common people who felt that their regular built and ordinary bodies are somehow below the standard of beauty.
With this, those who can afford the cost of liposuction chose the easier path while those who do not have money to spare or simply prefers to take the natural way ends up inside the gyms.
As for me, I promised myself a week ago that I’ll start doing brisk walking every other morning but the cool weather always pins me down to my bed. Tomorrow will be another day to try.
Spare The Environment, Save Your Life – Quit Smoking!
October 15, 2007
Most of us knows the adverse effect of smoking in one’s health but the environmental implications are often overlooked. It is said that the whole life cycle of a cigarette, from it’s growth up to it’s disposal, has a damaging effect to our environment. Today, at Blog Action Day, I want to share the things I have learned on how the cigarette and its industry affects our environment.World Hunger
Around 200,000 hectares (24 million trees) of forest are being removed yearly in order to accommodate tobacco farming. Dr Judith MacKay, Director of the Asian Consultancy on Tobacco Control in Hong Kong, said that tobacco’s “minor” use of land denies 10 to 20 million people of food. The need of tobacco plants for more nutrients depletes soil with nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium at higher rates than any other food crop and several “cash crops” like coffee and tea, quickly degrading the surrounding soil.

Filipinos Goes Desperate?
October 4, 2007
Once again, the Filipino Blogosphere is in an uproar as another “attack” was launched against the Philippines. This time, against our medical schools. Susan Mayer, played by Teri Hatcher in Desperate Housewives, said to her doctor following a seemingly impossible diagnosis:
“… before we go any further, can I check those diplomas because I just wanna make sure that they’re not from some med school in the Philippines.”
I never was a fan of Desperate Housewives and I am not a graduate of any med school in the Philippines either. Those are probably the reasons why I didn’t twitch a bit in the remark.
Early Termination Fee Is Extortion
October 3, 2007
We already know how poor consumer protection is in the Philippines but let me just express my disappointment with a service policy that is clearly a bull****, but I am hearing no government action to address it yet. It is conveniently called ETF or Early Termination Fee which is usually used by telecommunication companies (TELCOs).
Contrary to other countries where companies offer a 30-day money back guarantee, some companies in the Philippines have a 12-month tie-in period which charges unsatisfied customers for early termination. So if you decided to subscribe today and after installation realized how poor their service is, you need to suffer 12 more months or pay the ETF to relieve you from your misery. I call that extortion.
Things I Learned From The Senate
September 27, 2007

Yesterday, the Senate had a whooping 12-hour-long investigation on the controversial NBN project as former NEDA Chief Romulo Neri attended the session to testify. Here are some of the things I realized as I watch the proceedings from time to time:
1. Neri, taking that the “200″ bribe actually means 200 million, is simply saying that the average kickbacks per government project is not just by the hundreds nor by the thousands.
My Blood Boils Everytime I Hear The ZTE Deal
September 22, 2007
Joey de Venecia claims that the National Broadband deal of the government with ZTE is overpriced by $200M. This excess is said to go to the pockets of some of our honorable public servants. Funding for the said project will be loaned by the Chinese government which bottom line, will be paid by the already burdened Filipino tax payers. The nerve of them!
while some official gets $200M richer,
a lot of kids spend their lives on the streets

photo used with Sidney Snoeck’s permission of My Sari-Sari Store
They [allies of the administration] are throwing everything they can at Jose “Joey” de Venecia III, casting him in the role of drug abuser, business adventurer cum scam artist, name-dropping son using his father’s position, not to mention liar. ((Ring of Truth by Solita Collas-Monsod, Inquirer.Net))
Joey not being “holy” and “perfect” doesn’t mean that he is not telling the truth. In fact, I do not care less about his reputation. His accusation merits probing regardless of his reputation.
My Change of Heart for Erap
September 10, 2007
If I were not suffering from LBM back then, I would probably be one of those students clamoring for the ouster of President Joseph Estrada six years ago.
What was now tagged as EDSA People Power 2 was the people’s spontaneous and peaceful way of expressing their disappointment in what seems to be an obstruction of justice. In the eyes of the people, truth was being suppressed.
In yesterday’s issue of Manila Bulletin, a full page paid advertisement came out which aims to remind the public not to be misled by the result of “commissioned and manipulative surveys” revealing that most Filipinos favor Erap’s acquittal. The ad has this sentence as its heading, “The law applies to all or none at all.” I totally agree with that. That is probably the reason why I do not give a damn if ever Erap gets acquitted.
