Education As A Privilege

November 26, 2010

Second semester of two-term colleges started this month and hopefully, every student was able to enroll. It is a sad fact but with everything else rising except for salaries, a number of kids are dropping out of college.

In a country like the Philippines were education is deemed precious, making sure that kids receive a good education is a priority to most families. However, tertiary level is now turning into a privilege more than a right. Even fees in state universities are out of proportion with a regular family’s earnings. Lucky is a student who can find a medical assistant school that can assist in their education. Finding one is a blessing that should be thankful for.

Addiction – A Way of Escape

November 4, 2010

I am no psychologist so I really cannot say why some people tend to be addicted to certain substances. It could be because it gives them a way of escape from problems they couldn’t handle. They probably couldn’t find someone to support them and encourage them and so they turn to substances that gives them relief even for a while. We all know that their problems doesn’t really go away but for them, forgetting about it even for a time gives relief.

Sad as it may, addiction can be cured with a good support system from the people closest to the person. Finding a good rehabilitation like the malibu drug alcohol rehab treatment center will be of great help for rapid recovery.

Invest In Your Health

July 30, 2010

Our health often takes the back seat until we are hit by problems and we are unable to do the things we wanted. Problems even pile up more when medical bills start piling in. We pay for consultation and medicines on days we are unproductive.

Those without a health insurance knows exactly what I’m saying. That is why I recommend that if you can, grab yourself one. The contribution may be a little inconvenient but the benefits will really outweigh them. There are plans that you can personalize to meet your needs like the health insurance in nc. Get the benefits that you want in an amount you can pay.

This will surely be a great relief in times of health issues especially if you got all your family members covered. Health is wealth and so it is worth investing.

My Blog Is Carbon Neutral

May 30, 2010

Carbon Dioxide Created By Blogs.
A study showed that an average website that receives 15,000 visits a month causes about 3.6kg or 8 pounds of carbon dioxide yearly. This carbon footprints came from the energy usage of mainframe computers, servers, and cooling systems that is used to keep your site online.

Carbon Dioxide Absorbed By Trees.
This is a value that cannot be precisely answered since a lot of factors can affect the trees capability to absorb carbon dioxide. However, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) assumes that one tree, on the average, can approximately absorb 10kg (20lb.) of carbon dioxide emissions.

8 lbs/year Carbon Dioxide Emission by Blogs
VERSUS
20 lbs/year Carbon Dioxide Absorption of Trees

This clearly shows that one tree is more than enough to offset the emission of one blog. That is why a young team from Germany called kaufDA has cooperated with Arbor Day Foundation to make your blog carbon neutral. They will be planting one tree for every blog that will spread the word about their initiative. If you want to support their project and would like to know how to participate, check out their website.

The trees are planted in Plumas National Forest in Northern California by “Arbor Day Foundation” our partner in US for the “My blog is carbon neutral” initiative. The “Arbor Day Foundation” is a non-profit conservation and education organization with the goal helping reforest 5,500 acres of Plumas National Forest with 792,000 trees.

If you want to know more about the program, check out this site.
If you’re a little skeptical, check out Recycle Bills’ journey in verifying the project.

Don’t Forget Our Dads

May 22, 2010

I have not read any statistical study if people spent more on Mother’s Day compared to Father’s Day. I have this impression that society places more weight on the former than the latter. I am not undermining the role of fathers but generally speaking, women strive harder than men as far as the family is concerned. Theirs is a never ending role and you can’t blame society for loving them more.

However, this should not be an excuse to only pay tribute to our moms. If we worry ourselves in finding unique gifts for her, let us also spend time to surprise our dads as well especially this coming Father’s Day.

Holy Week 2010

March 29, 2010

This week is already Holy Week and a very long weekend is upon us. With the way gadgets and technology have boomed, spending Holy Week is no longer the same compared to few years back.

When I was younger, I do not like this season. There were absolutely no show on television and we were prohibited by our parents to have fun. I was even not allowed to play and run. Now TV networks have special Lenten shows and with netbooks and portable game consoles, no kid will ever be bored.

People going on vacations have also increased during this season. A few years back, the only people traveling are those who are going back to their provinces. Now, people going to Boracay, Puerto Galera, Baguio, and other summer destinations have also increased.

I welcome such changes in our times but I hope that we may not totally forget to reflect on our lives and thank God for the things He has done for us.

I wish you all a meaningful Holy Week.

Kudos to Working Moms

January 20, 2010

I admire married women who manages to juggle her professional and her family life. Both occupation can be very demanding at times and needs careful time management. Though I believe that above anything, the kids should always be prioritized and that juggling them together with other things is unacceptable, the existence of working moms is a reality we all need to accept and embrace especially in today’s economy.

The only way we can probably see mothers staying at home is if they’ll have a successful home business. However, presence at home does not necessarily equate to quality time with the kids.

Such realization makes me all the more appreciative of women who are both good home builders and a responsible worker. Kudos!
