Kudos to Working Moms

I admire married women who manages to juggle her professional and her family life. Both occupation can be very demanding at times and needs careful time management. Though I believe that above anything, the kids should always be prioritized and that juggling them together with other things is unacceptable, the existence of working moms is a reality we all need to accept and embrace especially in today’s economy.

The only way we can probably see mothers staying at home is if they’ll have a successful home business. However, presence at home does not necessarily equate to quality time with the kids.

Such realization makes me all the more appreciative of women who are both good home builders and a responsible worker. Kudos!

New Year, New Start

The new year is the time where people decides to make significant changes in their lives. The most common resolution is probably taking the way to wellness. People starts eating right and enrolling in the gym. Some makes it a point to start a new career or to find that greener pasture. Very few probably decides to make a cross country moving to start a brand new life elsewhere.

No matter what your objective is for 2010, as long as it results to a better you, pursue it.

Is Your Home A Feast to the Eye?

We Filipinos are so fond of hanging a lot of items to our walls. We could easily spot a diploma and a family picture more than a painting. We love to place things we value for our visitors to see. We also like stuffing our homes with furniture. A corner does not often go bare. We would want to place a corner or side table just to fill in the gaps. Electric fans might be neglected as far as floor and wall area is concerned and so they often resort to air conditioner or ceiling fans. Making our home a feast for the eye.

More Than A Boost In Economy

It came across my mind earlier that one of the reasons why the Philippines is not that progressive is a very restrictive work qualification.

In a poor country where a number of children fails to earn a college diploma, it is hilarious to think that even fast food crews are required to have at least a college degree. Another funny things is setting age qualifications of not more than 30 years old! Come on! 31 is not that old not to be able to work.

I was wondering if anyone in the government actually made a study on how much percent of the population falls within such requirement. My guess is less than 50%. Thus, leaving a large number of individuals struggling to find a decent job. I am just not sure if the law prohibits such restrictions but the existing culture says that it is being permitted.

That is why I give due praise for the call center industry. More than providing call center services, this industry have managed to boost what other companies shattered… the opportunity for “over-aged” and under graduates to have a decent living.

Sending Our Nurses Out

With the multitude of tertiary courses being offered today in the Philippines, you could really count with your fingers those courses which have in demand graduates. One of them is nursing.

There are professions that are highly needed locally but not globally or the other way around, but nurses are needed in both. Sadly, due to a high demand internationally, which of course offers much better pay, our local health department is suffering as nurses seeks greener pasture. International demands are in fact so high that some doctors chooses to enroll in a medical assistant training school in order to qualify for jobs abroad.

I could not blame these nurses and doctors. Though it is noble to serve one’s countrymen, we also have our family to sustain. After all, nursing is a profession. Nurses parents’ primarily sent them to school in order to help the family financially.

Monitoring Calories

Losing weight is all about monitoring your calorie intake. The safest rate is to have a daily calorie deficit of 500 in order for you to lose 1 pound in a week. If you lose too much, it may result to losing muscles instead of fats.

Following the theory of weight loss is a little tricky especially here in the Philippines where calorie content is not normally disclosed in diners and restaurants. You got to have the ability to guess logically the calorie content of the food you are consuming or simply trust your gut feel. Otherwise, you may need the help of a nutritionist to guide you in the right diet. If you are living in Texas, make sure to check some austin weight loss clinics in the area.

Power Vote For Efren Penaflorida

Efren Penaflorida is the first and only Filipino who made it to CNN’s Top 10 Heroes for 2009. He founded a group called Dynamic Teen Company who is currently teaching kids in the slum area with basic reading and writing as well as right hygiene.

The Hero of the Year will be determined via online voting which open until November 19. Let us support our fellow kababayan. As Sec. Durano said, “People like Efren remind us that our country is blessed not only with natural resources, but with true wonders such as individuals who dedicate their lives to heroic work.”

To make voting a lot easier, I have prepared a simple tool to help in my power voting that I would like to share with you. Go to this link to Power Vote!

Philippine Holidays In November

The month of November is a good time to go out of town to take a break from the usual as the Philippines will have two long weekends this month.

The first will be a three-day weekend that will start October 31st to November 2. November 1 (All Saints’ Day) and November 2 (All Souls’ Day) are both special non-working holidays. As we all know, this is probably one of three holiday seasons when people return to their home provinces.

The second will be a four-day weekend commencing November 27 and ends November 30. This is because of a new movable special non-working holiday just signed this April – the observance of Eid’l Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice. The feast is held by our Muslim brothers after the annual visit to Mecca. November 30 on the other hand is Bonifacio Day.

Death Bike Riders

We frequently hear in the news a number of motorcycle accidents lately. I even personally know of one who lost his life from it. Motorcycles are a great way to travel since they are light and small that you can easily maneuver through heavy traffic. However, this plus factor can also be a down right hazard if we tend to become reckless.

Here are some reckless actions, as I observed it, that often result to motorcycle accidents:

1. Beating the red light.
2. Insisting to maneuver into tight spaces during traffic.
3. Constant swerving.
4. Not maintaining enough distance from vehicle in front of them.
5. Over loading. Imagine four people on a motorcycle?!

I understand that for the most part, motorist values time and money and would want to reach their destination the soonest. However, we should value our life more because once we have spent it, there is no way to earn it back.

If you happen to get yourself on a motorcycle accident in California, you may want to ask legal assistance from a Pleasanton motorcycle accident attorney.
