No Food Sharing

June 2, 2010

We often like to share what we have to people that we love. However, this thinking is not safe when it comes to sharing foods with our canine or feline pals as some of our favorite people food could be poisonous for them. Below are some of the common foods that could be fatal to your pets:

1. Avocado – This fruit is said to contain a toxin called Persin. This toxin is not only limited to the fruit but is also contained in the leaves, seeds, and bark.

2. Onions, Onion Powder, Chives and Garlic – All these can result to gastrointestinal irritation. Worst, may also result to damage of the red blood cell.

3. Grapes and Raisins – This may cause kidney failure especially to our canine friends. Though no research have made to fully know the factors, it is generally advised no t to include this in to their diet.

4. Yeast Dough – Though threat does not involve cooked dough, the uncooked ones may contain yeast that can rise in our pet’s stomach. This may lead to stomach pain and intestinal rupture.

5. Foods with High Salt or Fat Content

There are more foods out there that may be more harmful than beneficial to our pets. The safest way to go is that when we are in doubt… don’t.

Investing In Insurance

May 29, 2010

When we are planning to buy a gadget or anything pricey, we often go qcouting for the best buy offers there is in the market. I say that when planning to get an insurance, it is also wise to do the same.

Insurance is a security for us in case something unfortunate happens. It is only right that we not only get the best value for money but to get it from a company that is reliable. Ask for the different insurance quotes available and review each company’s profile. You certainly wouldn’t want your security to turn into a disaster at the most unlikely time.

Remember that insurance can also be considered as an investment. Spend your money wisely.

Healthy Grilling

May 28, 2010

The heavy downpour of rain yesterday morning could be a sign that summer is ending. Even today, it is still a bit gloomy. We’ll be counting days before the rainy seasons but I guess people who wants to go in a last-minute summer vacation can still catch up. So better hit the beach while you still can. If you are also planning to hold a grill party, here are some tricks to reduce producing heterocyclic amines (HCAs) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) which are said to be linked with cancer.

1. Cruciferous vegetables. Broccoli and cabbage are said to contain sulforaphane that helps in clearing DNA-damaging compounds more quickly. Adding these stuffs to your party is a healthy practice.

2. Marinate meats. Scientist believes that the antioxidants in marinades reduces HCA formation. Red meats marinated in beer or wine for 2 hours can reduce HCA formation by 92-99%.

3. Go for fish. Compared to meat products, seafood has a lower amino acid content and requires shorter grilling time.

4. Go lean. PAHs forms during flare-ups. Prevent this from happening by trimming the excess fat from your meats. Remove the skin in chicken meat and select lean cuts.

5. Flavor meats with rubs. Rosemary are found to reduce HCA levels by 100% when rubbed onto meats before they are grilled. Other hebs that are believed to have similar effects includes basil, mint, sage and oregano.

Hear The Offers

May 22, 2010

I know of some people who easily dismisses, without hearing the details, calls from credit card companies informing them of special offers. It is understandable that we are at times too busy to handle calls that we think will only sink us deeper in debt. However, there are offers that could benefit you if you’ll only take time to listen.

If you are already having difficulty paying your dues, availing of a balance transfer could be better instead of accumulating finance charges. There are companies that offer transfer at a minimal interest of 0.60% payable from 12-24 months. Do the math and you might findout that the monthly interest you are accumulating could be the total balance transfer interest you’ll be charged with.

There are also other bonuses you might be missing for using your credit cards like free Starbucks coffee and movie ticket. Just a reminder though, do not use your card just to get these bonuses. These are simple bonus credit card offers and should not drive you to be in debt.

Waiting for Summer?

May 22, 2010

While the Philippines have long been experiencing summer with this much high temperature, people in the US are waiting for the season to come. Teenagers have several reasons to look forward to summer. It usually involves a road trip to the nearest state or a visit to a different country; enjoying a day in an amusement park or watching in a movie house. Some spends their time on the beach while others prefer to go camping.

Personally, I like the idea of camping out on an RV. It gives you a sense of home out with nature. Enjoying the greenery and the cool breeze of the wind. Also worth mentioning is the road trip experience as we move from place to place. Just make sure that you keep an rv repair number handy just in case.

No matter how you plan to spend summer, make sure to enjoy it! I sure will…

Life is Fleeting

May 6, 2010

Life is unpredictable.. and fleeting. One minute you’re up, the next one you can be six feet under ground. It is always best to live the day the best way you can.

I have a number of relatives whose passing away came as a surprise. My cousin was out working one morning then when he returned home for lunch fell to the ground due to heart attack. No one saw it coming. We brought my aunt for a consultation Friday, she left us by Sunday. We didn’t thought it will be that fast.

With that, it is safe to say that we should not just prepare for our daily concerns. It is wise to review whole life insurance quote so as not to burden the loved ones who will be left behind.

Weighing Your Weight Loss Product

May 1, 2010

Losing those extra weight is no vanity. It is never vain for overweight people to desire reaching their normal one. I call that wanting to be healthy. Be wary however, that in your pursuit to be healthy, you should not resort to unhealthy practices. There are a lot of products in the market that claims that theirs are the best weight loss products. It may be true, it may be not. The question is, “how to know the difference?”

1. Search for testimonials and/or reviews, if possible from other websites. Those available in the seller’s site may be fabricated. We have no means to know.
2. Consult your doctor. This is the wisest step you could take. Let your doctor check the product for any ingredient that may cause side effects.
3. If you decide to take the product, observe your body. Be aware of any good and bad changes.

Getting a Back-up Service

April 30, 2010

One of my blogs encountered a problem recently. I could not browse through the dashboard after logging in. I tried deleting some plug-ins but to no avail. Thank goodness that I managed to keep a copy of the necessary backups. Otherwise, I’ll be beating against time copying my post from Google’s cache.

It is always wise to have a copy of your important files handy. You can never tell when an unfortunate event might happen. There are online backup services that will ensure that your website files are always backed up. If you have a number of posts that you hate seeing become lost in oblivion, I guess paying for a dependable service will be worth it.
