Pursuing Youthful Looks
March 31, 2011
The idea of having a fountain of youth is a proof of man’s desire to stay young. It is a testament that we are not content with just staying healthy but we also want to stay young. Aesthetics over substance. I do not want to sound hypocritical here. I admit, that at my age, I sometimes look back to my youthful days.
Such desire was the reason for the emergence of a lot of products and procedures that promises a youthful looking result. But it is important not to fall for some youthology scam that offers nothing but empty promises. In my opinion, an honest testimony from credible endorsers and product reviewers still counts the most.
However, if you plan to pursue the search for that effective fountain of youth, it is best if you also give equal attention to your health. What good is good looks if we have a deteriorating health.
Japanese Patriotism
March 31, 2011

A strong earthquake, a tsunami, and a nuclear crisis are situations that no country ever dreams of experiencing. Sadly, all three struck Japan earlier this month. Photos that surfaced in the internet showed the world the extent of the damage that the country took and global relief efforts are now being organized.
It is often said that crisis shows one’s true character and that saying holds true for the Japanese people. In the midst of chaos, they showed that order lies in the character of the people. We see them lining up patiently in bus station and groceries, and people who chooses to stay in order to help evacuees. I can’t help but wish that such character was also molded to us Filipinos. A patriotism that translates in to action and not just a show of fashion.
Summer Vacation Is Here
March 31, 2011
One thing that grown ups probably misses about their childhood is having a summer school vacation. Two months without school doing the things you love. It is good for parents to take advantage of this vacation to expose their children to other activities. Enroll them in summer workshops and classes that they find interest in. It will help them discover what profession they want to take up in the future. This will also instill discipline in them at a very young age.
After their sessions, allow them to do other thing they want to do like playing jeux ps3 or watch a cartoon marathon. Let the 2-month vacation be an enjoyable, fun, and productive time of their life.
Job Mismatch
March 27, 2011
It’s March and a lot of college students will soon be marching down the stage to receive their diploma. School ends, life as a professional begins. Congratulations guys and may you be successful and fulfilled in your career.
Sadly, not everyone lands in their dream jobs. The government have long been determined that there is a mismatch between the course students are taking and what the industry demands but no concrete action is really being taken to correct this. We are now seeing less tech jobs for tech graduates and the rest probably ends up as customer service representatives.
So consider it a blessing if your bachelor’s degree becomes your profession. Not everyone becomes that lucky.
Start Believing
March 27, 2011
Have you ever had an idea that your friends thought was ridiculous? If so, what would you normally do with it? Will you trash the thought or will you pursue it’s realization despite your friends’ comments?
If you are verging more on doing the latter, think again. There were a number of “ridiculous” ideas in the past that, with a strong follow through, made their creators rich. One of them is the 70′s fad Pet Rock. Pet Rock is basically a simple rock marketed as hassle free pets. They were packaged in a box with hays and a pet manual. They were sold at $3.95 and in just six months, Dahl managed to earn $15M from it!
Genius isn’t it? So don’t just abandon your ideas if you really believed in them. Find people who will support you and by all means, do it!
Saved By The Card
March 18, 2011
Have you ever experienced having a grand time with friends and then when the bill came and it’s time to split payments you find yourself short of cash. Well, I am no stranger to that. Just recently, what was originally planned as a simple dinner was spontaneously followed up by ktv-ing with quite a bill. Good thing though that we have our handy dandy cards to save us from shame.
You’ll never appreciate the benefit of credit cards until you really needed them. Some even doubles as reward cards where you can get cash back or points. It is however important for owners to be responsible in using them for anything in excess gives bad outcomes.
In Search For The Next Recipe
March 12, 2011
If there is one thing that I got from watching Junior Master Chef Australia, that is the inspiration to learn how to cook. I somehow felt ashamed seeing how the kids were preparing a variety of dishes when the only thing I could probably do in the kitchen is to fry.
That is why I decided to do my best to learn (and master) at least one dish a month. For the month of March, I chose to do something like that of my favorite pasta recipe, Yellow Cab’s Charlie Chan. Though it is not quite like the original, I can say that it is a good recipe in itself. I still haven’t decided yet on what dish to do next. If you know of something that is easy to prepare, kindly let me know.
Hopefully in the future, if ever I’ll come close to being a master chef, I could have any of the Franke sinks available outdoor to add to my kitchen enjoyment.
A Prayer For Japan
March 12, 2011
Yesterday, the world probably stood still as news of an 8.9 earthquake, and a tsunami afterward, hit Japan. A double beating from nature is too much to bear for any country. We have seen the photos and videos posted on the internet and we have uttered our prayers for the affected families.
May this tragedy help them reflect on life and bring forth enlightenment, may they be able to recover from the lost and damages, and may they be able to show the world the resiliency that will inspire others.
I have worked with several Japanese for more than three years and I admire them for being hard working and yet still able to show kindness.
Make Safety A Priority
March 6, 2011
Safety should always be a top priority. That is something that we should plan carefully especially in building facilities. Cost should only come second as far as safety is concerned. Life is precious and once gone, we can never have it back.
This principle holds true universally. Extra caution should be applied however in manufacturing plants where risks are higher. If something requires a teflon hose, we should go for that hose and do not settle for something lesser. Often, such action leads to catastrophic results.
Coffee Lovin
March 6, 2011
I am originally not a coffee person. My only memory about coffee when I was a kid was how my grandfather who was a fisherman mixes it with rice when we have fried fish as a viand. Aside from that, I have not drank coffee until I was already working.
As a process engineer, we need to go on night shift or extended shifts especially when we are rushing shipments. It was then that I started drinking coffee again only because I need to stay awake. It was more out of necessity.
It was only five years ago when I started to find pleasure in coffee drinking. Mornings will not be the same without a cup of it. When the weather is warm, an ice blended drink is a delight and lattes are the best especially after meals.
When you discover the joy of drinking coffee, you would soon find yourself wanting to personalize your coffee mug as regular cup sizes might not be enough for you.
What is your cup of tea coffee?
