Far From 700
June 30, 2010
A running shoe is said to be only good on its first 700km. After that, the support is already worn out and one needs to replace it with a new one. When I bought my pair, I thought that 700km is way to few and it will eventually mean buying two to three pairs a year! Well… that is not the case. I have been skipping my morning jogs for quite sometime now and if I manage to run, I only run a short distance. With the rate I’m going, I think my shoe will be sticking with me for at least a year. Hopefully before it reach 700km, I’ll be able to get hold of a shoebuy coupons.
Giving In To Cravings
June 6, 2010
People who are serious in to losing weight knows how difficult it is to resist a food craving that do not add well to one’s diet. Let’s face it, some of the foods we love to get our hands on are in fact… “sinful”. Some of them even already comprises 1/4 of the recommended daily calories we needed.
However, we need not totally resist our cravings. Here are some tips on how to satisfy it:
1. Downsizing. Eat a smaller amount. Content yourself with one or two pieces of it. If you have a friend, share a serving with him.
2. Substitute a lower calorie treat. Sorbet over ice cream.
3. Allot a room for the food you really want in your daily calorie intake.
4. Resist trigger foods. There are foods that falls in to the category “once you pop, you cannot stop.” Never even attempt to take one bite from them.
It is said that the more we deprive ourselves of our cravings, the more we indulge in them afterward. So give yourself a break from all the foods that burn fat that you are taking and allow yourself a little of your craving.
Digging For Truth
June 6, 2010
What a day! One of the things that I hate is confrontation. I’m just not build for it. Witnessing one is not that easy as well especially when those involved are your loved ones. The truth is always hard to face but we have to sooner or later. It just pains me to see people dear to me hurting. I cannot bear the sight. I know that this night is just the start of more discussions in the family and I don’t know where to stand on the issue. I know that it is always right to stand for truth but how much truth are we willing to learn? I’ll be needing lots of wrinkle creams for this one.
Run and Rain
June 5, 2010
It seems the the rainy season is nearer than we thought. The weather has been cloud to rainy for the past few days. This was the reason why I skipped a week of training run. I find it hard to wake up earlier for a run with this kind of weather.
I am looking forward to doing a run under the rain but I don’t think I’ll be doing it that often. As the rainy season nears, I know that this will further disrupt my training. I’m checking out some apidexin reviews to see if it’ll be a good alternative to running as far as losing weight is concerned. But I guess I’ll stick to the latter as much as I can. Anyway, a storm usually only last up to a maximum of three days. I’ll just probably run on two consecutive days to compensate.
Fuel Saving Myths
June 3, 2010
Though oil prices are rolling back for the past few weeks, fuel economy should still be taken seriously. However, it seems that a number of fuel saving actions that we know are actually just mere myths. Below are some of them as lifted from the website fueleconomy.gov:
1. It takes more fuel to start a vehicle than it does to let it idle.
Modern fuel injected engines start very efficiently, especially when warmed up. Idling can use a quarter to a half gallon of fuel per hour — depending on your vehicle’s engine size — costing you about 1 to 2 cents per minute. Turn off your engine when your vehicle is sitting still, except when you are waiting in traffic or waiting in a line where you would need to turn it on and off frequently. Restarting your engine too frequently can wear out your starter.2. Vehicles need to warm up before they can be driven.
Modern vehicles can be driven within seconds of being started, though the engine should not be subjected to extreme loads until it has reached its normal operating temperature. Plus, the quickest way to warm up a vehicle’s engine is to drive it.3. As a vehicle ages, its fuel economy decreases significantly.
A vehicle that is properly maintained will retain its efficiency for many years. The EPA tests vehicles with about 5,000 miles on the odometer to account for the break-in period since a vehicle’s fuel economy will typically continue to improve over the first several years of ownership. Vehicles that are 10 or even 15 years old will experience little decrease in fuel economy if properly maintained.
There are seven other myths that are worth knowing from the said website. Make sure to check them out.
Pill Testing
June 3, 2010
What do you do when someone offers you diet pills that work? Will you buy them because they work? Will you decline because they are diet pills?
It is probably rare to see those two words together. A working diet pills is something that is hard to find in the market. By doing a hit and miss purchasing, you’ll probably find the effective product after a number of failures. Skeptics even believe that the “effective” ones might only be due to a placebo effect. I just pray that as one tests the products out there in the market, no harmful side effects be encountered.
When it comes to this products, I always stand by to my conviction that it is always advisable to consult your physician.
Toiling For Oil
June 2, 2010
In a society where most are powered by fuel, I guess it is safe to say that prices of basic commodities rises and falls in direct proportion with oil prices.
In the Philippines, gasoline prices are now down to ~41.75 from ~43.50 a few weeks ago. Petition for a fare hike by the transport sector was temporarily shelved because of this. I am not sure if life insurance rates follow the same proportion or if they are exclusive from such factors. Wheat prices however, seems to be unaffected with this improvement. Local bakers are now puzzled why no price slash are being implemented.
It is said that oil prices could have even go lower if only we had a stronger peso against the dollar. The weakening euro seems to have played a role in the recent price decrease.
No Food Sharing
June 2, 2010
We often like to share what we have to people that we love. However, this thinking is not safe when it comes to sharing foods with our canine or feline pals as some of our favorite people food could be poisonous for them. Below are some of the common foods that could be fatal to your pets:
1. Avocado – This fruit is said to contain a toxin called Persin. This toxin is not only limited to the fruit but is also contained in the leaves, seeds, and bark.
2. Onions, Onion Powder, Chives and Garlic – All these can result to gastrointestinal irritation. Worst, may also result to damage of the red blood cell.
3. Grapes and Raisins – This may cause kidney failure especially to our canine friends. Though no research have made to fully know the factors, it is generally advised no t to include this in to their diet.
4. Yeast Dough – Though threat does not involve cooked dough, the uncooked ones may contain yeast that can rise in our pet’s stomach. This may lead to stomach pain and intestinal rupture.
5. Foods with High Salt or Fat Content
There are more foods out there that may be more harmful than beneficial to our pets. The safest way to go is that when we are in doubt… don’t.
