Carbon Dioxide Created By Blogs.
A study showed that an average website that receives 15,000 visits a month causes about 3.6kg or 8 pounds of carbon dioxide yearly. This carbon footprints came from the energy usage of mainframe computers, servers, and cooling systems that is used to keep your site online.
Carbon Dioxide Absorbed By Trees.
This is a value that cannot be precisely answered since a lot of factors can affect the trees capability to absorb carbon dioxide. However, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) assumes that one tree, on the average, can approximately absorb 10kg (20lb.) of carbon dioxide emissions.
8 lbs/year Carbon Dioxide Emission by Blogs
VERSUS
20 lbs/year Carbon Dioxide Absorption of Trees
This clearly shows that one tree is more than enough to offset the emission of one blog. That is why a young team from Germany called kaufDA has cooperated with Arbor Day Foundation to make your blog carbon neutral. They will be planting one tree for every blog that will spread the word about their initiative. If you want to support their project and would like to know how to participate, check out their website.
The trees are planted in Plumas National Forest in Northern California by “Arbor Day Foundation” our partner in US for the “My blog is carbon neutral” initiative. The “Arbor Day Foundation” is a non-profit conservation and education organization with the goal helping reforest 5,500 acres of Plumas National Forest with 792,000 trees.
