Driving Safety Tips During A Storm

October 2, 2009

It is now the second day of October and yet the rainy season is not yet over. Motorist should take extra precaution especially when driving during a heavy downpour. Here are some reminders from Honda Cars on how to travel safely during adverse weather condition.

1. First Rule: Slow down! It takes longer to stop in wet weather.
2. Adjust your following distance. using the 4-Second Rule. This needs to be increased in extreme wet weather.
3. Don’t follow large trucks or buses too closely. The spray created by their large tires reduces your vision.
4. Turn your headlights on even in a light rain, or in gloomy or overcast conditions. Not only do they help you see the road, but they’ll help other drivers see you.
5. Never turn on your hazard lights while cruising. This will confuse the driver behind you when changing lane or taking a turn.
6. In multi-lane roads like EDSA, C5, Commonwealth Ave., NLEX and SLEX, stay toward the middle lanes – water tends to pool in the outside lanes. However, do not clog the overtaking lane when running at lower speeds.
7. Never drive beyond the limits of visibility.
8. At night, the glare of oncoming lights, amplified by the rain on your windscreen, creates a very treacherous situation.
9. If faced with a puddle deeper than the bottom of your door or more than half of your tires, turn around and find another route.
10. In stormy conditions, it is more difficult to see other vehicles, road signs and the road itself. Make sure you can see and be seen.
11. If possible, stay off the road during heavy thunderstorms. High winds and heavy rain can create deadly driving conditions.

Worst case, if ever you’ll meet an accident on the road, make sure to seek help like the Tacoma car accident lawyer if you are in Washington.

Be safe!

Drying Your Flooded Car

October 2, 2009

Typhoon Ondoy have ravaged the Philippines unexpectedly considering that it’s wind was not that strong. However, the large amount of heavy rain it poured left hundreds of families in Cainta, Marikina, and other provinces homeless.

I can’t help but have mixed feelings whenever I watch the news reports. I feel sad seeing the situation of the people affected but at the same time, happy to see how Filipinos gave new life to the bayanihan spirit. If you still want to give assistance to the victims of Ondoy, just click the banner on top of this site for ways.

For car owners whose vehicle got drowned in the flood, bringing it back to its top shape will definitely need more than cleaning the car mats. Make sure to tow it to a mechanic to have it overhauled and detailed. You may also find this article from Popular Mechanic helpful.

Death Bike Riders

October 2, 2009

We frequently hear in the news a number of motorcycle accidents lately. I even personally know of one who lost his life from it. Motorcycles are a great way to travel since they are light and small that you can easily maneuver through heavy traffic. However, this plus factor can also be a down right hazard if we tend to become reckless.

Here are some reckless actions, as I observed it, that often result to motorcycle accidents:

1. Beating the red light.
2. Insisting to maneuver into tight spaces during traffic.
3. Constant swerving.
4. Not maintaining enough distance from vehicle in front of them.
5. Over loading. Imagine four people on a motorcycle?!

I understand that for the most part, motorist values time and money and would want to reach their destination the soonest. However, we should value our life more because once we have spent it, there is no way to earn it back.

If you happen to get yourself on a motorcycle accident in California, you may want to ask legal assistance from a Pleasanton motorcycle accident attorney.
