Holiday Snail Mails

October 23, 2009

Every year, some members of an online forum I am a member of decides to have an activity we call “Exchange Christmas Card.” It is fun to receive greeting cards via snail mail from someone who you only knew online. It has been a tradition that has been going on for four years already.

Most of us are probably aware that electronic mails have mostly replaced the regular mail. The same can be said with holiday cards. There are a lot of electronic greeting cards available in the net but I cannot deny that receiving one from the mail feels more personal to me. I’m a sentimental person, you know. :D

How about you, do you also love receiving snail mails from friends?

Renovating the Bathroom

October 22, 2009

There are a lot of things I am looking forward to as the year ends. One of these is renovating our bathroom. I am planning of getting a new tile and getting a hand-held shower head. I want to use paint with a light shade of brown for the upper half of the wall and a heavier shade of brown tiles for the lower half and the floor. Of course this isn’t final yet as it will depend on the availability and cost of such tile.

I saw a warehouse type store along Centennial Road in Cavite selling class B 8x8in floor tiles for only 11 to 13 pesos but only have pastel colored ones available. Do you know of other stores that offer a better bargain?

Wishing for a Cross Trainer

October 22, 2009

One of the things in my wish list is owning a cross trainer. Others might argue that this is a little impractical since we have the streets and parks to jog in to. Though the streets are free for such use, I find it a little unsafe. Not only is there a risk from undisciplined drivers but also risk from stray dogs. I was once attacked by a dog while walking on the street!

Another reason why I prefer elliptical trainers is because it lessens excessive pressure to the joints – decreasing the risk of impact injuries. I had an accident years ago that fractured my left foot. I guess it didn’t totally healed because it easily aches whenever I go jogging.

Philippine Holidays In November

October 22, 2009

The month of November is a good time to go out of town to take a break from the usual as the Philippines will have two long weekends this month.

The first will be a three-day weekend that will start October 31st to November 2. November 1 (All Saints’ Day) and November 2 (All Souls’ Day) are both special non-working holidays. As we all know, this is probably one of three holiday seasons when people return to their home provinces.

The second will be a four-day weekend commencing November 27 and ends November 30. This is because of a new movable special non-working holiday just signed this April – the observance of Eid’l Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice. The feast is held by our Muslim brothers after the annual visit to Mecca. November 30 on the other hand is Bonifacio Day.

Increasing Security

October 20, 2009

I guess the biggest headache that a system administrator can experience is encountering a breach of security. The extent of such situation may range from minimal and trivial inconveniences to outright compromise of sensitive information. Which ever is the case, end users will encounter downtime.

With this in mind, I think that it is very important that administrators should always be vigilant especially because system hackers are always trying to find ways to bypass securities placed. Taking up a course in MS in Information Security would definitely boost one’s effectivity as an administrator.

A Managerial or Technical concentration may include topics like Intrusion Detection, Response, and Recovery; Computer Forensics; Information Security Strategies and Risk Management; and Wireless Security.

This is a paid post.

Campaign Badges for Efren Penaflorida

October 13, 2009

Among the many video interviews I saw featuring Ef, I would say that this one is my favorite.

Efren Penaflorida is the first and only Filipino that made it to CNN’s Top 10 Heroes. Voting is currently ongoing until November 19, 7PM to determine the Hero of the Year. Please support him by voting and placing on your website a campaign badge that redirects to his voting page.

Time Is Important During Preparations

October 9, 2009

The last quarter of the year is an event filled period for me. November is not only for Halloween parties since our town fiesta also falls on the same month. December of course, means Christmas and New Year’s eve. With several opprtunities for a get together, coming up with unique holiday invitations may easily exhaust your brain of ideas especially if you prefer custom made ones over those readily available at the bookstore.

If that is the case, make sure to start gathering ideas at least a month before so that you’ll not be rushing on the printing. Events should not only be enjoyed on the actual day of the celebration but also during the process of preparation.

Consultation Is Important Before Taking A Pill

October 6, 2009

Have you ever experienced stepping on your bathroom scale and being shocked by the weight it registered? I did. I guess it is a problem most people who work for 8 hours sitting in front of a desk encounters. It is hard to burn calories sitting.

With today’s fast-food and instant-cooking culture, it is not surprising to see a lot of weight loss pills being sold on the market. However, not all of them are effective and others may even have unwanted side effects. Make sure to research about the pill that you plan of taking, better yet consult your doctor and ask for recommendations from friends.

Also, bear in mind that these pills, left in itself, may not yield a desired result unless coupled with a good diet and regular exercise.
