Bayanihan Moves

August 31, 2009

One of the traditional Filipino attitude that we can be proud of is the “bayanihan.” Bayanihan refers to a spirit of communal unity or effort to achieve a particular objective – originally, moving a whole house.

In the province where the activity often takes place, trucks used for moving are not available. So unlike with the case of a manufactured home, houses are moved by people carrying the house on their shoulders. These houses are built with stilts and can be carried by forming a strong frame from bamboo poles to be carried by the town’s people. The owner prepares a small feast afterward as a sign of gratitude to those who helped in the process.

This is a one of a kind spirit that if we learn to apply in our daily lives, will surely set us moving.

Long Live Michael Jackson

You may have lived only up to 50, but in our memories, you live forever.

SEC Releases List of Firms Allowed to Sell New Plans

August 25, 2009

Times of crisis breeds more swindlers. That is the clear lesson we can learn as we constantly hear news on pre-need companies failing to live up to their part of the bargain. Insurance is an investment and like any other investment, one should carefully give a thorough check on a company’s background. Placing it in the hands of people who have no proof of integrity may become a great disaster.

The Securities and Exchange Commission have recently released a list of pre-need firms that are allowed to sell new plans in the Philippines. These days, aside from considering a company’s term insurance rates, check their reputation as well. If they are not on the list, they might be naughty.

Michael Jackson’s Death Was Homicide

August 25, 2009

We may have initially shrugged off the idea of Michael Jackson being a homicide victim probably because we hate the fact that the king of pop was untimely taken away from us. However, the Los Angeles county coroner’s findings declares that Michael’s death was indeed homicide and may mean criminal charges for his doctor. Dr. Conrad Murray told investigators that he administered a mix of powerful drugs to treat the pop star’s insomnia hours before his death.

Be Safe and Insured

August 25, 2009

There are people who view insurances as plain expenditures instead of as an investment. Yes, it does lessen your spending power but it may save you from bankruptcy should an unlikely event happens.

Take for example an auto insurance, it is good knowing that you need not spend a lot repairing your car in case of accidents and that there is something that you can rely on during unfortunate events. You may justify not getting one with reasons like you driving super careful. Sadly, you is not the only driver out there on the road. There are quite a good (or should I say bad?) of reckless driver that may collide with your vehicle.

So in order to save yourself from lots of worries, do yourself a favor and get one.

No Penguins Allowed

August 17, 2009

When I was still a child, I have this thinking that tuxedos are only worn by penguins. Thanks to the popular cartoon show Batman. However, as a man grows up, he will soon discover the beauty of wearing the tuxedo and it is important that he learns what is and what is not appropriate in wearing one.

The color, tail, and the type of lapels will vary on the time of day the suit will be worn and on how formal an event is. Black tuxedos are generally worn on formal evening events. A single breasted with no tail will do unless the event is ultraformal requiring a double breasted with full tails.

Selecting a tuxedo can be a tricky job so when the occasion calls for it, make sure to consult a level headed friend or consider consulting a store specialist. They can guide you away from being a fashion villain.

A One-Piece Work Station

August 10, 2009

I have just recently rearranged again my room. I decided to move my work table from facing North to facing the West direction. Feng Shui has nothing to do with it. I am just trying to find the most ergonomic arrangement possible. I’m currently using two desk to accommodate my desktop and other paraphernalia. I am planning to buy a one piece office furniture that will fit all these. It is during these times that I wish the Philippines have an Ikea.

My Ideal one-piece workstation is an L-shaped desk with drawers located on my right side and that includes some shelves above. It should also have enough space underneath for my CPU and sub woofer. Would also love some space to accomodate a small aquarium and some indoor plants. :D
