Three Spots I Enjoyed Most In Ilocos

January 17, 2009 · Filed Under All Entries, Feature, iRonnie

Three days is more than enough for one to appreciate the beauty of Ilocandia. Sadly, three days is not enough to experience and enjoy what the province has to offer. In that span of time, we managed to visit at least ten spots, tried some few local dishes, and met new friends. If my budget permits, I wouldn’t have second thoughts going back to Ilocos.

It is not easy to put in one post the entire experience and so let me start my series with the three spots I enjoyed the most in Ilocos.

Bangui Bay Wind Farm in Bangui, Ilocos Norte.

Wind Power Project: Bangui, Ilocos NorteLining up the bay of Bangui in Ilocos Norte are twenty windmills towering around 110 meters, all white modern structures in a natural blue sea and blue sky setting! This are the kind of structures the government should be spending on.

If you decide to visit the wind farm, do not content yourself seeing it from the view deck. Continue further down the route but keep an eye on the left side of the road for a sign that will prompt you to turn left to Bangui Bay Wind Power Project.

Cape Bojeador Lighthouse: Burgos, Ilocos NorteCape Bojeador Lighthouse in Burgos, Ilocos Norte.

Sitting on top of a hill called Vigia de Nagparitan, Cape Bojeador Lighthouse is not only the tallest (in reference to sea level) but is also the most visited lighthouse in the Philippines. It has been guiding seafarers since 1890.

The design of the lighthouse was created by Engineer Magin Pers y Pers but was reconfigured and its construction completed under Engineer Guillermo Brockman.

If this will be your first stop in the morning, do some stretching as you need to work your way if you want to go all the way to the top. It is simply breath taking (pun intended).

Bantay Abot Cave in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte.

Bantay Abot Cave: Pagudpud, Ilocos NorteYou won’t miss this on your way to Maira-Ira Beach aka Blue Lagoon.

It really is not a cave. Just a hole in the rock. Others mights not love this as I do so let me level your expectations: here you get to see rocks, sea, and very strong winds. Bantay Abot is my top personal favorite.

For the record, these three are the sites I enjoyed the most among those we managed to visit. I believe Ilocos has a whole lot more to offer. Things that merits a second visit. :D
