Litratong Pinoy: Kadiliman

October 30, 2008

Don’t Forget To Hand Me One

October 30, 2008

You are cordially invited… sounds familiar?

One of the most important thing one should consider when preparing for a nuptial is the wedding invitation. It can be as an elaborate lacy invite or a simple but elegant pristine white invitation, of course depending on the taste of the bride and groom. Invitation is your “HEAR YE!” to declare your love to the world and that you are ready to tie the knot. A lot of things are to consider though when choosing the over-all design of wedding invitations. Fonts could be curvy and calligraphic or it can be ultra modern chic. The paper material should also be given a second look since it sets the mood for the impact you want for your wedding theme.

Sigh, all things considered, just don’t forget to invite me on your wedding day! Okay?

Enjoying The Halloween

October 26, 2008

The “W” group will be heading off to Taiwan right after Halloween. These people always finds time to travel that it will not surprise me if I hear them scouting for Brazil vacation packages next. They even managed to go to Tagaytay after attending a wedding.

Knowing that Taiwan is famous for cheaper consumer electronics product, I ask them to check out iPod prices for me. I am specifically eying for an 80GB classic and hopefully it will fall within my budget. I have always said how technology tends to leave you obsolete in just a short time but this knowledge doesn’t stop me from wanting these gadgets. I really don’t mind not having the “latest” just as long as what I have still serves it’s purpose. Hopefully this one will last for a long time as this things are not that cheap.

Anyway, I do hope you could enjoy the coming holiday. Our family is not planning something grand, just a movie marathon on the eve of Halloween.

Revival

October 26, 2008

O LORD, I have heard your speech and was afraid; O LORD, revive Your work in the midst of the years! In the midst of the years make it known; In wrath remember mercy. (Habakkuk 3:2)

Only God can restore life to something that has died. If you find that your heart has grown cold to God, that the spiritual life of your family or church has waned, call out to God to revive you, for only He can give life. It is not your activity but your relationship with God that brings life!

Spiritual fervor can ebb if left unattended. We all begin our walk with the Lord enthusiastically, with an excited sense of anticipation. But over time, busyness creeps in. We become distracted and let our sin go unchallenged. We may take our relationship with God for granted and not notice the gradual decline until we find ourselves drained of spiritual vitality.

Be Reminded

October 24, 2008

How you noticed that you are becoming forgetful lately? Well, it is a fact that our body stops growing new nerve cells when we hit the age of 25 and will start losing 1% of it per year. However, though memory loss due to aging is inevitable, we can lessen it’s impact by making healthy choices that keep the rest of our body in top form. Doing the activities below will surely give you a boost:

1. Challenge yourself by learning new skills: learn a new hobby, a new language, a new instrument, read, volunteer, or simply interact with people.

2. Maintain a physical activity: take the stairs instead of the elevator, walk instead of taking a ride for short distance travel, walk your dog.

3. Develop a healthy eating habit. I know it may sound cliche but most fruits and vegetables have antioxidants that nourish and protects our brain cells.

4. Live healthy: stop smoking, manage your stress level, and visit your doctor.

We always hear that prevention is better than cure. So better start living right because unlike our computers, we cannot just walk in an Apple store and get additional Mac memory.

It Is Your Life!

October 20, 2008

For it is not a futile thing for you, because it is your life, and by this word you shall prolong your days in the land which you cross over the Jordan to possess.” (Deuteronomy 32:47)

It’s puzzling that so many Christians try to live the Christian life without reading their Bible, except for sporadic perusals of God’s Word, seeking a pithy thought for the day. The Word of God is not merely a source of helpful suggestions, preventative warnings, or inspirational thoughts: It is life itself!

Lower Your Risk Of High Blood Pressure

October 16, 2008

Just recently, my aunt spent almost a whole week confined in the hospital for high blood pressure. Mom always say how inconvenient being confined is - instead of spending days trying to earn money, you end up spending it.

If you or a loved one is also suffering from high blood pressure, here are a few natural course of action to lower it down.

1. Quit smoking. do it gradually in the course of 4 to 6 weeks.
2. Consume seaweeds. They contain substances that dissolve the ‘fatty build-ups’ on the blood vessels, helping to create a steady heart beat.
3. Add in your diet foods rich in beta carotene.
4. Eat several garlic cloves, raw or lightly cooked, a day.
5. Consume less high-salted foods.
6. Add a fresh lemon balm tea leaf to any food or drink you are having.
7. Maintain your standard BMI.

It will also be a big help if any one in your family has a health card or if you have a family health insurance.

Are You A Sartorialist?

October 11, 2008

I’m cool with just a shirt and my good old pair of jeans. To some, it might be a fashionista nightmare, but I’d rather be comfortable than be a fashion victim. Some say, design follows function but Starck says otherwise, for him, his design creates function. Clothing has always been mankind’s fascination… from the renaissance up to today’s haute couture. So whether in jeans or a sleek dress from the collection of
Oscar de la Renta, it’s important that you feel good and comfortable wearing it.

Stop Acne Outbreaks

October 9, 2008

Puberty could be the worst stage in one’s life. Just imagine, you’re anxious because your crush is just around the corner; you feel awkward because you’re neither a baby or a grown up!… and your folks just don’t seem to get the same line of thoughts as yours.

What’s worst? An Acne outbreak! I beg to disagree that this is nature’s way to solve our oil crisis but true enough, an oily face thus cause an acne outbreak. Here are some tips you could use to help you control acne outbreak.

  • Don’t prick nor touch your zits with your hand or finger, it would irritate the acne and could bring more skin problems.
  • Wash your face with a mild cleanser… It pays to have a clean face in this time of emergency but don’t overdo it… sometimes the skin reacts in cases of dry skin, signaling your sebaceous glands to produce more oil.
  • Don’t forget to visit your dermatologist for acne treatments, trust the expert in caring for your skin.
And lastly, don’t worry too much, besides, you will outgrow puberty and have a great days ahead.
