Fuel Saving Tips For Motorists

I’m sure that maintaining a mind set that your gas tank is half full and not half empty will not ease off the pain of continuously increasing oil prices. With oil price now at PhP58 per liter, it is wise to exercise some gas saving tips. Here are a few from Goodyear as published in Manila Bulletin:
- Avoid idling for a long time. Turn off the engine if you anticipate a lengthy wait.
- Avoid carrying unnecessary items in your trunk. Extra weight decreases gas mileage.
- Keep tires properly inflated and aligned. Periodic wheel alignments and keeping tires inflated to their maximum recommended pressure can improve gas mileage.
- Get regular engine tune-ups and car maintenance checks.
- Avoid stop-and-go traffic by avoiding the rush hour period or taking alternative routes that are less congested.
- Use good quality engine oil, preferably synthetic or standard oil treated with a friction reducing oil additive. These have been known to improve fuel economy by as much as 12 percent.
In addition, I suggest taking a walk for short distance travel, you not only save gas but gets a good cardio exercise. If you can, take a public transport and/or organize a car pool.
