Sweeney Todd

Director Tim Burton seems to have a habit of releasing gothic themed movies for Christmas. Fortunately, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street came as a good treat.

I will not play critique here but I did enjoy the film and would want to grab a personal copy of it. Songs like “Not When I’m Around” and “Pretty Women” have been playing in my computer and in my head for more than a week now.

Burton have successfully mixed class and gore and I guess not all people can appreciate that. Imagine the actors singing classic songs while blood squirts all around the room? That is Sweeney Todd who was on for a killing spree after he failed to perform revenge on the judge who accused him falsely in order to steal his beautiful wife. Not even those who had PA hair transplants will be spared from his blades.

I may become hesitant of going to a barber alone and in eating meat pies but surely; I will not mind seeing the film all over again.

In the Philippines, the film encountered some delays. The movie was shown around three weeks late due to the yearly Metro Manila Film Festival which showcases only locally produced films for the Christmas season. Also, the movie failed to roll on the screens of all SM Malls in connection to the cinema’s policy of not showing films rated R-18 by the MTRCB.

I’ve watched “the making of” and simply entertaining. What surprises me is that, Johnny Depp and the rest actually can sing. Dark but surprisingly stunning. I’m saving to watch this on the weekends.

I liked it … I felt a bit sleepy at start, but the slashing certainly woke me up ;P

Rated R-18, it certainly is! :D
