Things I Learned From The Senate

September 27, 2007 · Print This Article

Yesterday, the Senate had a whooping 12-hour-long investigation on the controversial NBN project as former NEDA Chief Romulo Neri attended the session to testify. Here are some of the things I realized as I watch the proceedings from time to time:

1. Neri, taking that the “200″ bribe actually means 200 million, is simply saying that the average kickbacks per government project is not just by the hundreds nor by the thousands.

2. I am dismayed to learn that the office of the socioeconomic planning secretary, actually lacks thorough planning and consideration in approving government projects.

3. The agency responsible for checks and balances have reduced to doing nothing but advising and endorsing.

4. Could someone please give Jamby a break at being a travel agent? She might actually do a better job at it. For the meantime, she should learn to listen to the answers of the person she is questioning so that she might come up with a more logical follow-up question. Enough with the dramatic insinuations.

5. As always, Miriam never fails to strike a point. “Pinag-aawayan nyo lang ang mga kick backs nyo!” and “Why don’t they just kill each other in the streets.” I concur.

6. Some senators are no good listeners. Some are no good at questioning. Some are actually good for nothing as far as investigating is concerned.

7. Why do they have to ask questions like, “Are you willing to be a fall guy?” and “Did you offer him a bribe?” Are they actually expecting the person to answer “Yes your honor“?

8. It is hard to separate personal grudges from official functions.

9. “No comment” is to guilty showbiz personalities. Is the “executive privilege” the same for the case of guilty cabinet officials?

10. Our government will accept, if some nation actually offers it, even a Trojan Horse.

    Nice points.

And yes, their kick backs are by the millions … I’ve reason to believe that in most government projects the some city mayors get at least 10% of the whole budget … and that’s just for the mayors.

Trojan Horses or bugs I’d like to put on every government officials, and see how dirty these guys can really get.

Our country isn’t poor, some people are just getting insanely rich through all the wrong reasons one can think of! Damn crooks.

  4. Rino on September 27th, 2007 10:57 pm

BTW, I signed up for the blog action day, which I saw sa main page mo. I have written about the environment in my blog a lot of times but one more for this cause would serve a better purpose.

have a great weekend papa dom.

    JEPROCKS,

  8. iRonnie on September 28th, 2007 9:30 am

    RINO,

hi rino. medyo excited nga din ako dyan sa blog action day kasi ang daming blogs ang nag sign up to participate. kaso wala pa akong maisip na topic. hahaha! anyway sa 20th pa naman sya so i have a lot of time.

kickbacks also present in the baranggay level by the thousands…it’s sad but true…they call it SOP :(

  10. jeprocks on September 28th, 2007 2:50 pm

corruption and CIVILIZATION mind you ahahah… yung sabi ni miriam na hindi ibig sabihin na porket hindi sya nag sabi ng totoo means that he’s lying… it could mean that he is telling only the half truth… now its up to the senate how they will sort things out and tell kung sino ang pinakareliable sa mga nagsasabi ng half truths

“Our country isn’t poor, some people are just getting insanely rich through all the wrong reasons one can think of! Damn crooks.”

    I totally agree with this!

The senate has mutated into a one-stop NBI office for all the accused. They should just stick to law-making. Its actually a waste of time. for the record wala naman nangyari sa lahat ng mga inimbestigahan nila eh.

and talking about Jamby… hay buhay ng walang alam sa senado… ni hindi man lang pagsalitain yung tinatanong… she really annoys me.

nice countdown by the way. they are all true as far as I’m concerned.

anyhow I also signed up for that Blog event last 2 weeks pa ata. di ko lang maidisplay pa yung banner kasi may banner pa ako sa blog. pero I would definitely join the caravan on the 15th.

di pa ba ayos kapatid trackbacks mo?

  13. zerovoltage on September 28th, 2007 11:05 pm

if it were me the venom of the poisonous/incurable bug will make them suffer an “x” amount of time. “x” being directly proportional to the suffering of their victims and amount of money (or it’s equivalent) they stole ;P

    enjoy the weekend din! :D

  14. iRonnie on September 28th, 2007 11:20 pm

    TUTUBI,

  15. iRonnie on September 28th, 2007 11:21 pm

    JEPROCKS,

oo nga naman. may AND CIVILIZATION nga naman ang sabi. haha! of course they cannot disclose the whole truth kasi they are also protecting themselves.

  16. iRonnie on September 28th, 2007 11:23 pm

    SIDNEY,

i also agree with that. public funds are not fully use to benefit the people because of corruption.

    enjoy the weekend sidney.

  17. iRonnie on September 28th, 2007 11:26 pm

    BLUE,

i did some tinkering sa cpanel ko though di ko pa sure if makakapag display na sya ng trackbacks. i guess di theme ang problem kasi ginamit ko tong theme na to sa websights and the trackbacks were still showing.

  18. iRonnie on September 28th, 2007 11:27 pm

    ZERO,

well if there is no such bug, an X degree of heat in hell will do just fine for me. hahaha!

  19. Taroogs on October 1st, 2007 10:24 am

and like a circus, one gets to see many “performing animals” during hearings like these — not only in the senate but also in the lower house. Plus, the “performances” are not exclusively done by those being grilled — even the investigators never fail to amuse :-( (sigh)

  20. iRonnie on October 1st, 2007 9:58 pm

    TAROOGS,

“performing animals”, how fitting! watching senate investigations are both entertaining and disappointing at the same time.

i hope miriam won’t discover this post or i might be charged with contempt. haha!

  21. Taroogs on October 3rd, 2007 7:23 pm

oh no! don’t get me started on that “Mad Cow”.. hehehehe

Got something to say?
