My Blood Boils Everytime I Hear The ZTE Deal

Joey de Venecia claims that the National Broadband deal of the government with ZTE is overpriced by $200M. This excess is said to go to the pockets of some of our honorable public servants. Funding for the said project will be loaned by the Chinese government which bottom line, will be paid by the already burdened Filipino tax payers. The nerve of them!

They [allies of the administration] are throwing everything they can at Jose “Joey” de Venecia III, casting him in the role of drug abuser, business adventurer cum scam artist, name-dropping son using his father’s position, not to mention liar. ((Ring of Truth by Solita Collas-Monsod, Inquirer.Net))

Joey not being “holy” and “perfect” doesn’t mean that he is not telling the truth. In fact, I do not care less about his reputation. His accusation merits probing regardless of his reputation.

I personally think that this is a not so complicated case: Get the contract or any document that sums up the costing for the project then compare it against the other proposals, and/or do a technical study and we can easily determine if it is indeed overpriced and disadvantageous for the government. We can then take off from there and file charges to those responsible.

As with Ms. Monsod,

“I’ll take Joey’s word anytime over that of Abalos. And I will take Joey’s word over that of Leandro Mendoza and the DOTC.”

I am not pro Joey de Venecia. I am pro Filipino welfare. Because of this, I seek for the truth.

As for the NBN project, I am not against having all agencies connected but is this a pressing need? Will this project save me from waiting in long lines and jumping from one government agency to another just to process some papers?

A lot of people are dying in public hospitals for lack of equipments. A lot of students have no decent rooms and books in their classes. Surely, they deserve to be prioritized more.

    VERA,

ako din sawa na. pero you can’t easily dismiss things happening in the country lalo na at nasa pinas ka. nakakaawa lang ang mga bata sa kalye. nakakatakot isipin na with the growing corruption and regressing education, time will come lahat ng batang pinoy ay magiging palaboy na sa lansangan. :(

in gist, the ZTE deal aims to connect all government agencies in a network. problem is, the project is said to be overpriced by $200M. to be loaned by china and paid for by the tax paying people of the philippines.

    hep hep! hooray!

    SYDNEY,

thanks for lending me the picture! it just saddens me that there are government officials who fails to see truth about poverty because their faces have grown to calloused to open their eyes.

They definitely should take a look into this, but put priority on more important stuff.

Gutsy move by Joey de Venecia considering he and his father could be in trouble and investigated as well …

We can only hope and pray that this gets resolved quickly, considering all parties concerned are powerful.

hi there! Nice blog you got.

I’m with you. About our government, it sucks big time. Their just wasting their positions and living the life of luxury, while in reality, there are many fellow Filipinos who are starving to death. The broadband issue is not that important to our country right now. Officials think that the Philippines should keep up with other rich countries in terms of technology. And to me, it’s just meaningless. There’s nothing to prove anyway. Not with the poverty and all.

    MSVESSA,

precisely! i think government should prioritize funding the basic services that will directly benefit the people more (e.g. public hospitals). i do not oppose technological advancement if it benefits the general good. but with the NBN, i doubt that people will actually benefit greatly from it.
