My Change of Heart for Erap

September 10, 2007 · Print This Article

If I were not suffering from LBM back then, I would probably be one of those students clamoring for the ouster of President Joseph Estrada six years ago.

What was now tagged as EDSA People Power 2 was the people’s spontaneous and peaceful way of expressing their disappointment in what seems to be an obstruction of justice. In the eyes of the people, truth was being suppressed.

In yesterday’s issue of Manila Bulletin, a full page paid advertisement came out which aims to remind the public not to be misled by the result of “commissioned and manipulative surveys” revealing that most Filipinos favor Erap’s acquittal. The ad has this sentence as its heading, “The law applies to all or none at all.” I totally agree with that. That is probably the reason why I do not give a damn if ever Erap gets acquitted.

My take on this issue is not because I was influenced by the result of surveys nor because I believe in his innocence, but with how the republic is handling the “Hello Garci” controversy. I do not see any difference between Erap’s “the ‘no’ votes have it” and Gloria’s EO464. Both obstructs justice. Both suppresses the truth. Gloria should be thankful that the Filipinos seemed to have grown weary of launching another people power. The law should apply to all, even without mob rule, otherwise none at all.

I hate to admit that in my heart, I regret the outcome of EDSA People Power 2. Because it failed to result to a more morally sound president as a successor.

A count up timer is placed in Erap’s official website: 2325 days in detention, when will it all end? It may probably end two days from now or may still last for another 2325 days or more, as Sandiganbayan gives it’s verdict on the Erap case on September 12.

Whatever the result maybe, I thank you Erap for allowing those jokes about you to circulate. It sure made a lot of Filipinos happy.

May God bless the Philippines.

Aye. Whatever happens to Erap we’d still be stuck with the current thieves in the government. God help us all…

Madali makalimot mga Pinoy, kaya back to Erap na naman ang mga tao. We can’t blame them…with the Hello Garci issue, no one’s trusting GMA either.

    @ ALDO REY
it is a sad truth. corruption will not end with erap’s conviction. we even have an upcoming $200M corruption debt to pay to satisfy our politician’s pockets.

    @ELY
sa bagal ng hustisya sa pilipinas, natututo ng makalimot ng taong bayan. we can actually forgive without necessarily forgetting.

thanks leaving a comment nga pala. chill!

It just seems that you have to be some sort of crook to even consider running for office nowadays. Wouldn’t it be nice if we needn’t settle for the lesser evil, that seems to be always the case.

What ever Erap’s verdict is, I just hope justice is rightfully served.

People who love sausage and people who believe in justice should never watch either of them being made. -Otto Bismark-

    ZERO VOLTAGE

it will sure be nice. but i guess that is something that will still remain only in our dreams.

and when justice is rightfully served for erap… i do hope that the rest of us filipinos will receive an equal serving of it.

    have a good tuesday!

i was there during edsa 2. we were bus load of seminarians. I still dont regret my stance then, because we had a principle to uphold. but seeing gloria run our country, i wont think twice of joining the mob again to oust another corrupt leader.

alam mo parang evolution yan eh, nageevolve ang presidente… habang tumatagal lalong bumabangis, lalong nagiging buwaya…

May God Bless the Philippines Indeed.

i myself do not regret that edsa dos happened. what i regret is the leader that came out of it. though not my personal preference, i think gloria was okay back then. too bad that evolution, as you have stated, really do happen.

latest news. Erap is guilty as charged.. i wonder if justice was served rightfully well.. i can only think of his family right now.. :(

  14. iRonnie on September 12th, 2007 9:07 pm

    hi CLAIRE!

i am actually of two mind with this issue. i pity erap for sure yet there is doubt in my heart of his innocence. well, as you said in your blog, let’s look at the sunny side of things. this may actually be the start of something good in our country…. hopefully.

what i do hope is that every corrupt officials of our country receives an equal serving of what erap received. i think some of them is actually worst than erap.

thanks for dropping by. i appreciate it. ;)

  15. bluep on September 12th, 2007 9:25 pm

pasabat… hehehe.. i received the follow up comment on my email

nakita mo ba bro yung reaction ni erap kanina after the verdict, kaka-awa ano? pero he has to face the verdict to be a sacrificial lamb (???) to set the example. Sana lahat ng Corrupt makasama nya in the near future behind bars. It is unfair to him na makalusot yung iba lalo na si madame at hubby nya.

  16. iRonnie on September 13th, 2007 12:04 am

no i havent seen any news footage since this afternoon. naawa nga ako sa kanya though you are right in saying that justice goes before mercy. i just hope na ALL corrupt officials will get the same fate as erap. it will indeed be unfair for him kasi may mga politiko at large and in power na MAS MALALA pa sa kanya.

in time, justice will caught up with them. if not men’s, then God’s.

  17. K on September 13th, 2007 4:04 am

I think it’s one of the reason why I dislike politics, our corrupt officials is getting into my nerves.

Papano na yung mga Marcos cases?

  18. iRonnie on September 13th, 2007 10:17 am

i know what you mean K. i also do not like politics nor have interest in it. it’s just that you cant totally ignore something that racks your nerve out. kumakapal ng kumakapal ang balat ng mga buwaya dito.

on the lighter note, i just wanna inform you that your comment is actually numbered 1000th.hehehe.

    have a great day.

  19. niki on September 15th, 2007 2:47 pm

i wasn’t in manila during edsa dos but i was among those who joined the rallies in the provinces. i don’t regret doing that either. :) erap may be nakakaawa but that doesn’t take away the fact that he did something wrong and should well, pay for it.

as for the present crop of thieves, errr, politicians, the conviction should serve as a warning. but then again, the conviction may just make them wiser in their “ways”. lol.

  20. iRonnie on September 15th, 2007 5:54 pm

the first stone has been cast. i say let’s keep on casting until the government is purged from corrupt officials. nakakaawa man sila but justice must be served.

thanks for the visit niki. have a great weekend. chill!

[...] I never regretted the fact that I became an instrument of history’s ousting of a corrupt president. It was a matter of national principle and moral ascendancy even though I myself and the rest of the Filipinos have our share of moral transgressions. What I regret is the fact that the person who replaced the former president is more corrupt and dece… [...]
