The Never Ending Tales Of A Cenobite

September 5, 2007 · Print This Article

I went to my second blogger meet up last Sunday night at Ayala Center. I don’t usually go on eyeballs since I am naturally shy and is only good at expressing myself in writing. However, this is one opportunity that I have decided not to miss.

Dom Lawrence, OSB ((Order of Saint Benedict)) is a Filipino Roman Catholic Benedictine monk brother of the Monastery of Christ in the Desert, Abiquiu, New Mexico USA. Our paths have crossed six months ago thanks to the primitive art of blog hopping. Since then, we have regularly visited each others’ blog.

I first felt awkward interacting with a monk on the internet because I have always thought of monks as dead serious, highly spiritual, and allergically holy. However, time have proven that Dom does not fit that stereotype. He is in fact hip, cool, fun, adventurous, and practical minded. From his tales I learned that monks, though in serious pursuit of holiness, are still like ordinary people who tends to make mistakes.

You could actually spend six hours of no dull moment with this guy because the cenobite has a never ending tale to tell.

hahaha. He’s cool diba? you’re darn right when you said, “he is the hippest monk of the benedictines”. sayang i missed that oportunity. Nevertheless I would someday meet this guy! and I think I have to carry with me tons of stories to tell to match his energy.
