Zsazsa Zaturnnah Ze Muzikal

Tapos.

~ Ada, Carlo Vergara’s Zsazsa Zaturnnah ~

Last June 24 my friends and I watched the 8pm show of the 5th and, allegedly, last run of Zsazsa Zaturnnah Ze Muzikal at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium at the RCBC Plaza in Makati.

Here are some of my thoughts with that experience:

1. Being Zaturnnah showcased K Brosas‘ vocal prowess. However, K needs to improve more on her acting and learn to be comfortable on stage.

2. An okay performance delivered by Tuxqs Rutaquio and Lauren Novero.

3. Without Didi, the play will cease to be comedic. Nar Cabico’s ad libs, acrobatic stunts, and Mariah-Carey mimicking sends the audience ROFL.

4. Fine performance by Kalila Aguilos! Her British accent and strong portrayal gave justice to Queen Femina as a classy-villainess.

5. The musical scoring and the songs are well appropriated. It is catchy yet heart warming when needed. Kudos to Vince De Jesus.

6. The story is too simple to cover a two-and-a-half hour show. Some parts were stretched out and thus became dragging. I personally think that too much exposure were given to the Amazonistas. They could have just added those time in building up Ada or Dodong’s character.

7. One scene I liked was Zaturnnah/Ada’s scene with her/his dead father. I’m a sucker for dramatic scenes in stage plays.

8. The set were simple and yet effective.

9. I was slightly upset by their number of attempts to use foul language and cursing as a source of comedy.

10. The play contains mature and sexual content, don’t bring the kids. Also, do not buy balcony tickets at RCBC Tower unless you have no problem in slightly leaning forward to have a better view of the show.

It seems that all the fanfare about the stage play raised my expectation so high that the play wasn’t able to measure up against it. Yet overall, I had a good laugh.

Your last chance to catch the play will be on Sunday, July 1st. Be sure to secure your tickets immediately.
