East 17 - Each Time

March 9, 2007

I just heard of this song recently from a friend and thought that it was good. Man was I surprised to know that they were famous back in the 90s!

East 17 were an English pop boy band, from the ’90s. The band name came from the postcode for Walthamstow, which is in the area of London, between the old East End, and the Essex commuter belt. They charted 18 top 20 singles and four top 10 albums. (Source: Wikipedia)

Angelito, the Flowerhorn

March 7, 2007

Meet Angelito! My pet flowerhorn.

I just recently acquired a 15-gallon fish tank complete with filter case, water pump, and oxygen supply for free. This and a friend’s information that he saw a flowerhorn at Bio Research for only 60 pesos convinced me to set-up an aquarium.

So off I went to the said pet shop last Saturday expecting to spend around 500 pesos for the fish and its food. But lo and behold, the 60-peso flowerhorn was nowhere to be found! My friend probably confused another kind of fish for a flowerhorn.

So I ended up buying one which is around 3 to 4 inches in size for 340 pesos. I decided to buy a fish net as well because I don’t want the pricey fish ending up down the drain as what happened to my fighting fish during tank cleaning time. In order to ensure that the fish will live to grow old, I also grabbed a top grade hzen zhou food, anti-chlorine, some hose, pipes, and filter pad for the aquarium costing me twice than what I have expected.

So upon arriving home I immediately set it up. It was then that I discovered that the oxygen supply need to be replaced and that an aquarium lamp is very much vital for aesthetic purposes and so both were acquired the following day.

After two days of tension filled preparation to set up the aquarium, I am now enjoying the fruit of that labor. Feeding the fish and watching it play with the bubbles seem to have its therapeutic effects against tension and worry. This soothing and calm feeling will probably last until tank-cleaning time.

K Na!

March 5, 2007

“Hindi madaling lumikha ng bagong bayan, nguni’t kung bawa’t isa sa atin ay kikilos, isasantabi muna ang sarili, maipupunyagi rin natin ang Pilipinas na hanggang ngayon ay pangarap lamang — Pilipinas na may dangal, may puso, at may katarungan para sa nakararami, Pilipinas na aaruga at magbibigay-pagasa sa mga simpleng pangarap ng mga naghihikahos nating mamamayan.”
~ Kiko Pangilinan

If some politicians get elected because of their looks, charm, and/or popularity, then I find no fault in casting my lot for Senator Kiko Pangilinan solely for the dignity he managed to display.

Why did Kiko decided to run independently?

He said he also wanted to be consistent with his decision two years ago when he called for the resignation of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

But Pangilinan said he could not also join the opposition because he and his group, the Liberal Party, had participated in the removal from office of then president Joseph Estrada.

“I think I need not explain my loyalties at this point. My loyalty is to country. My loyalty is to what I believe to be strengthening and preservation of our constitutional democracy,” Pangilinan pointed out.

I admire him for the dignity he showed. He could have taken advantage of the opposition’s adopting him as their guest candidate but decided to do a no-show on their rallies. He said he was grateful for it but he decided to stand by his decision of running as an independent. Some say that it is a political suicide… probably that explains why some are in the habit of crossing courts.

With a kind of politics such as ours, I give much weight on virtue. Having seen that with Sen. Kiko and reviewing his bills, resolutions, and legislative agenda, I know my vote will not go to waste. With that I can say, “K Na!

Our Problem

March 4, 2007

“The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23We have a problem: We are not holy, and “anyone whose life is not holy will never see the Lord” (Heb. 12:14).

Our deeds are ugly. Our actions are harsh. We don’t do what we want to do, we don’t like what we do, and what’s worse—yes, there is something worse—we can’t change.

We try, oh, how we try. But “Can a leopard change his spots? In the same way, Jerusalem, you cannot change and do good, because you are accustomed to doing evil” (Jer. 13:23).

We, like Adam, were under a curse, but Jesus “changed places with us and put himself under that curse” (Gal. 3:13).

The sinless One took on the face of a sinner so that we sinners could take on the face of a saint.

Jesus took upon himself the greatest problem of mankind… death because of sin. Yet inspite of it all, mankind still gets entangled with problems of his own making. How many times have you known the right thing to do and yet pursued otherwise?

When I was younger, I have this sin which I called “my thorn in the flesh”. I have this habit of marking my organizer whenever I fall for it. Seeing such number of marks made my guilt even heavier. I was so hard on myself… but God is kind. For He remembers my sins no more after confessing it to Him. But God’s kindness should not be abuse… yet I was an abusive person.

Acceptance - Different

March 2, 2007

The EP Lost For Words appeared in 1999, months before guitarist DeCastro decided to leave the band to pursue his own trail. It was after the band’s last gig with DeCastro that Garrett, who replaced him, offered to join Acceptance. After the lineup change, Acceptance continued to tour intensively, playing opening concerts for crews such as The Juliana Theory, Element 101 and Bleach. In 2003, Acceptance returned with their EP, Black Lines to Battlefields. Their third album is Phantoms. Acceptance did many months of touring, including The Truckstops and Statelines Tour with Panic! at the Disco, hellogoodbye and headliners The Academy Is….

Acceptance broke up in the summer of 2006. If they hadn’t broken up, fans suspected either the song “So Contagious” or “Glory/Us” to have been the next single. (Source: Wikipedia)
