The Turn of Milenyo

October 1, 2006 · Print This Article

Typhoon Milenyo brought several trees down; flooded several streets and houses; rip two GI sheets off our roof; and left the whole of Manila and Cavite with no water, and no electricity for at least three days. I guess this will be the topic of most bloggers from those areas for this week. Everyone have his own story of inconvenience and discomfort to tell. Count me out.

I guess a few people will count this incident as a blessing and yes, I am one of those wacko to do so.

Reason #1: I am thankful for the time that our family just sit around the table exchanging stories on how afraid we were of the storm and still manages to laugh at those experiences. A family whose members are busy with their own lives is now sitted together telling their fears, funny stories, and dreams; now what discomfort will one not bear for that.

Reason #2: Since people have nothing to do inside their houses, they loitter on the streets or sit just outside their gates. Neighbors chatting with one another trying to catch on each other’s lives, people lined up with their pails to the nearest deepwell, and neighbors helping one another trim down their trees or clean up their surrounding brought a festive feeling to our place.

Reason #3: Milenyo also helped me to arrive to a decision about something which I may have trouble weighing. Let’s just say that amidst the ruins he left, what was important for me became clearer and that was all it took for me to cast my vote.

Blessings do come from unexpected sources!

Aye. There is indeed a silver lining behind any storm. One has only to look for it.

Good to hear you’re not badly hit. But still, two sheets off your roof?!

ah oo. nakakamiss yang idle time with family. yung nagkukuwentuhan lang, walang schedule. walang oras. kakatuwa.
