Super Maids

The right side of my head have been aching for the whole day and it gets worst everytime I stand or do some quick movement. So for now I will be retiring earlier than usual. However, I will be leaving you with an article sent by eBalita yesterday. Feel free to drop your reactions on the comment box and I will discuss it with you after I have been relieved of this headache.

GMA says RP will start training ’supermaids’

Looking for a maid who not only cooks and cleans but can also save your kid from a fire?

It’s not Superman, it’s a “supermaid,” according to Philippines President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, who on Thursday announced a new training program for Filipino domestic helpers.

“We will be sending supermaids,” Arroyo said of a new training program during a round-table discussion on efforts to evacuate 30,000 Filipinos in Lebanon, most of them maids, and help them find new jobs.

Augusto Syjuco, head of the government’s Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, said the supermaid program includes instruction in first aid, evacuations from high-rises in case of a fire and other skills to help maids get higher pay.

“They are not just maids. They are really very well trained now,” he said. “If there is someone injured among the family they work for … how to get out of a fire in a high-rise building, all these are part of our upgrading program.”

Arroyo agreed. “They should (be able to) find jobs with families who will offer them high salaries,” she said.

About 10 percent of 86 million Filipinos work abroad, sending home at least $10 billion each year.

    I don’t know kung matutuwa ako o maaawa sa kalagayan natin. Kaylan ba nagsimula na ang main export natin eh OFW? It’s sad because in as much as they send dollar remittances, I know that this is just but a quick fix solution.

    Anyway, much of the kvetching. Sna gumaling na sakit ng ulo mo.

    still having a headache today. mukhang hindi nakatulong ang mefenamic acid at pagtulog. hanggang kailan kayo to? huhuhu.

    akala ko critical lang ang attitude ko against that news pero it seems so far, lahat ng nagcomment shares my view. nakakalungkot na parang masaya si gloria sa idea ng pagiging premier maid exporting country ng pilipinas. i do not mean to belittle yung mga kababayan nating DH, pero sa tingin ko wala namang taong ang ultimate dream ay maging DH kung may other jobs naman siyang mapapasukan. too bad na mukhang wala silang gaanong options.

    What I would prefer to see, the Govt. smart enough to invest the Billions of Dollars in Income the OFWs sending to the Economy in a sustained Economic Activities and industrial base (the way of south Korea) to create the same competitive jobs at HOME. Otherwise will be sending labour until such time that no country ever needs them. What then?

    what specialties pa ba kelangan sa mga maids? i agree, there are so many professionals working as maids and needn’t be trained anymore, filipinos are already trained in their households, kahit nga pati lalaki marunong sa bahay… what gloria should do is send the ofws to the jobs they’re really educated at… or more importantly, create jobs here…

    wow! a full page advertisement regarding the supermaid training course offered by tesda was included in today’s issue of manila bulletin. it is composed of 7 modules:

    1. orientation and introduction to host country;
    2. personality development;
    3. home safety;
    4. child care;
    5. home management;
    6. cooking; and
    7. care of pets.

    there is a topic on module 2 with a description title “reasons for working oversees”, i wonder what will be discussed there? the reason why you have to leave your loved ones and work oversees as a DH is because your government cant provide you with a decent and good paying job here in your own country. so please, bear with our failures.
