Bob Ong: Pinoy

I am one of Bob Ong’s legionnaire and that is a confession.

Aside from the humorous way he delivers his stories, I became attached with him because I manage to identify myself with him after reading “ABNKKBSNPLAko?!“. My college life wasn’t really a memorable one for me. There was even one part in the book where I almost cried because I know how hard it is to confess to your parents something that you know will break their heart.

Anyway, I admire his simple, entertaining, and yet meaningful writing style but after reading a story about him in inq7, I now admire him as a person.

on choosing to write in everyday Filipino:
“Consider language as a tool. English would be a saw. Filipino, a knife. My aim is just to peel singkamas (turnip) for merienda. A second language can never replace the first.”on choosing to maintain his identity a secret:
“Of course, you also do wonder at times how it feels to be a rock star. But I look at fame and success as Frodo’s ring, it’s not for everyone. I don’t cope well with big changes. It’s just not for me. Fame comes with a price I’m not willing to pay. I just want to write while living the average Filipino life. I don’t want to be robbed of that.”

    I’m also a BOB ONG fan… What I admire about him and relate to him is his way of delivering his stories… Witty… And also, I like his disregard to the formality of writing… After all, it’s the story that counts… Thanks for sharing :)

    i am a fan of bob ong too. but i haven’t read his first book and the stainless longganisa. pwede ko po ba malaman if how can i send mr. bob ong a message? i just wanna tell him personally how i really like the way he writes his books. thanks in advance.. God bless!

    what do you mean by “the whole story”? are you referring to the background behind his books or the one printed in the book itself?

    sayang ngayon ko lang nakita to and sayang wala na ang link. i’m a big bob ong fan from ABNKKBSNPLAko to Stainless Longganisa. All time favorite ko ang Paboritong Libro ni Hudas na nagalit sakin si Nanay sahil sa pamagat (LOL!) Pero hindi nag-click sakin ang MACARTHUR. Iba na kase ang genre.

    ako din i’ve read all his books. pero may special place sa puso ko ang AB! kasi naka relate ako ng sobra. ogs kasi akong estudyante. tinamaan kasi ako ng early life crisis.

    next na fave ko is the balck book din. hehe. then wala na. :D

    hi towl! (si bob ang kausap ko ha) nyway. eto. di ka pa nagkalat ang libro mo na parang isang epidemya na sya namang ikinatuwa ko eh,, ahm,, panu ba magtapos ng libro?? hahah! marami akong nasisimulan. ok naman mga yun. may horrorknhfgciuearhf ayan peste. ginulo ng kaklase ko ang patatype ko eh TINATAMAD akong magbura! KAYA GANYAN NA LANG.. horror. comedy. drama. sci fi. at mga kuwentong bangag,,, ayun di ko lang matapos kasi evrytime. eh nagkakaroon ako ng fresh ideas basta! i need you bob! yung mga buks mo naadik ako kaso di ako makabili eh im foor wahaha huhuhu pala.

    avid fan ako ni bob ong.. di ko sya dati kilala then yung kasama ko sa vocation retreat dati na nakabasa nung ewan ko kung anong tawag ba dun sa ginawa ko sabi parang si bob ong daw ako magsulat kasi bara bara pero may sense from then on hinanap ko na sya at collector na ko ng mga aklat nya.. ansaya kasi basahin kahit paulit ulit ko na nabasa na aaliw pa rin ako..ganun ako ka-addict sa mga libro ni bob ong to think na kahit bata pa lang ako sa edad na to..pero grabe super saludo ako sa kanya..kung sino man sya astig ka talga bob ong!!! ♥

    pahabol.. yung isa kong kakilala tamad din magbasa ng libro pero naging collector na din ng books ni bob ong..ang tanong ko nga sa kanya dati..”mahilig ka ba magbasa?” sagot nya”hindi..”sabi ko”mabuti! for sure magugustuhan mo mga gawa ni bob ong..”hehe… im not saying na tamad ako magbasa .di lang ako masyado mahilig magbasa ng mga pinoy made na libro pero gusto ko si lualhati bautista..pero super fan din ako si stephenie meyer..nabasa ko na nga rin po yung complete books of twilight saga..ganun ako katamad magbasa.dati ang accomplishment ko lang ay yung mabasa ko yung the da vinci code..ngayon ang makakuha ng mga unang copy ng libro ni bob ong accomplishment ko na haha.. ganun ako ka-adiK!

    He really catches the attention of Filipino youth through his books.
    Mapapabasa niya ng libro yung mga kabataan na hindi usual na nagbabasa.Nabasa ko lahat ng book niya except dun sa Kapitan Sino.

    Hi there?ac2ly ngaun lang aq nkbsa ng buk ni bob ong,naging interesado lang aq sknya dahil sa crush q.ikaw ba naman ang hindi itxt at savhin sau na busy xa sa pagba2sa ng buks nibob ong,..kaya ang ginawa q bumili rin aq ng buk ni bob ong para mka relate naman aq sa mga cnsv nya,sa awa ng diyos nagka usap din kmi ng maauz…ganda talaga ng mga quotes ni bob ong pag tinamaan ka sapol tlga!kahit sa company namin sikat ka!keep it up!

    low..its my first time to visit ur site..well uhhmm..pcnxa but im expcting something n mkkita q s site n to..jejejeje..pro okz lng not bad..by d way, i really like the writings of bob ong..nkktuwa,,tma ka mr. bob ong mdu nkkhiya mng aminin pro my mga bgy2 n d knais2 dito s bnsa ntin at lalo n sa ugali nating mga pinoy..pero khit anung sbhin ng mga tga ibng bnsa mas kakaiba tayong mga pilipino, at kung tutuusin nga eh mas mtalino ang pinoy..jejejejejejejeje..gus2 q tlgang mgkroon ng lhat ng kopya ng mga libro mu, kya lng mdu kulang s budget eh kya nkkihiram lng aq…

    hinahangaan ko si bob ong sa pagiging matapang sa pagmumulat sa aking diwa kung ano talaga ang isang Pinoy. Madami akong narealize sa aking sarili bilang isang Pilipino. Dapat pala ipagmalaki natin ito at tayo ang gumagawa ng pangalan at identity ng ating bansa. Naging inspirasyon ka sa maraming Pilipino. Keep up the goodwork and may God bless you.
