The Da Vinci Code Movie
May 23, 2006
Ang tagal kong hinintay ang Da Vinci Code only to be disappointed by it. Nang malaman ko that Tom Hanks will be the one to play the role of Robert Langdon I immediately thought na hindi bagay sa kanya ang role, I was right. The movie was also dragging. Tingin ko kung hindi ko nabasa ang book ay hindi ko maiintindihan ang movie.Isang consolation na sa akin ang makita visually iyong mga lugar na na describe sa book. The tomb of Sir Isaac Newton, yung church na may effigy, the Louvre, and Roslin. Bravo to Paul Bettany for his superb acting. Kinain din ng acting ni Ian McKellen ang acting ni Tom Hanks.
At the end of the movie sumakit ang ulo ko.
On The Da Vinci Code… Again

All this petition to ban the film here in the Philippines is only making the movie more controversial and thus, a probable commercial hit. They did it once in a movie entitled “Live Show”. If the critics and moralist have shut their mouth in the first place, the movie may have attracted less moviegoers since it had poor publicity.
I am one of those who will be disappointed should this banning takes effect. But anyway, I have read the book. Was it a stumbling block? Was my faith shaken? No. I know that the story is just a novel and not a documentary same as with King Kong climbing the empire state building. And if ever it was true, the purpose of Christ’s incarnation was not defeated by that truth.
I think the Philippines HAVE NO RIGHT to ban any film for the simple reason that IT IS NOT CAPABLE of containing it. A banned film will only find its way on the pirated DVD market and once it is in our home the MTRCB will lose its power to censor.
Cardinal Rosales handled this issue excellently. He said that the movie was blasphemous but didn’t call for it to be banned. He knew that faiths can be shaken and so he urged the priests and parish leaders to organize discussion and study groups focusing on the divinity of Jesus Christ, and to organize prayer sessions for world peace, morality and charity.
I fully respect and understand any audience member’s choice not to see a movie. But to deny other people who may find value in the story the right to see it, that’s kind of militant. I don’t advocate militancy in enforcing or defending belief systems because I think that leads to oppression, violence and hatred. I wouldn’t support or advocate that. ~Ron Howard (director, The Da Vinci Code)
Illegal Immigrants and The Rapture
May 5, 2006
NEW YORK — Illegal immigrants and their allies took to streets across America Monday to take part in “Un Dia Sin Inmigrantes” — “A Day Without Immigrants” — in an effort to show their economic importance to the country.
Many are protesting proposed moves by the federal government to further criminalize being in the United States illegally and to restrict the number of undocumented aliens in the country. There are an estimated 11 million illegal immigrants currently living in the United States.
An estimated 300,000 people gathered by early afternoon in Chicago, and hundreds of thousands more were expected later at rallies in New York and Los Angeles. Rallies were also held in cities like Dallas, Denver and Houston. Smaller events were planned in more than 50 other cities across the nation, even in places as Connecticut and South Dakota.

This event reminded me of a glorious day that Christians are looking forward to: the rapture. An event were all a believer’s hopes and dreams will be captured with one look at Jesus’ face.
For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage each other with these words. ~1Thessalonians 4:16-18 (NIV)
Unlike the “a day without immigrants”, the rapture’s effect will not be felt only for a day. Some of our acquaintances, friends, or loved ones will be snatched away from us permanently and this involves no illegalities.
