Gospel of Judas

I got a copy of the so called Gospel of Judas and though I have read it twice, I still can’t grasp a full understanding of its message. I specifically had trouble on the second half where in Jesus and Judas are discussing privately about the cosmos, the great generation, and the luminaries.
I had difficulty reading it as it seems detached from the other four gospels. There are also a number of intriguing passages that seems uniquely of this gospel such as:
… often he [Jesus] did not appear to his disciples as himself, but he was found among them as a child…
… he [Jesus] laughed…
… they [disciples] started getting angry and infuriated and began blaspheming against him [Jesus] in their hearts…
… he [Jesus] laughed…
… he [Jesus] laughed…
… after that Jesus laughed…
Judas was also pictured here as “the perfect human” and the one who will be cursed by the other generation and yet will come to rule over them.
I think the document is not fitting to be called as a Gospel. As I remember my Sunday school lessons, a gospel means “good news“. The good news of the Bible is that Jesus died on the cross for our sins and has risen from the dead after three days which Judas failed to write.
…hmmm, I myself is very intrigue with that gospel of judas, I agree with your last statements, the very fact that judas killed himself doesn’t make him credible…

i’ve only seen the documentary (discovery channel)of this gospel, how it was found, sold, stolen, kept, retrieved, puzzled together meticulously and studied (whew!) i still have to get a copy of this gospel though, but for me this isn’t just a ’so called’ writing because it’s been proven authentic by scientists who put their names and credibilities at stake to bring this 1800 yrs. old piece to the world…
i am truly fascinated by this find
we are used to the gospel that was chosen to be brought out by the early church leaders (hence what we read today) it was said that because Christ’s life was already written in the other(4)gospels, the leaders chose to push away this one for fear of conflict (back then there were many many forms of christianity/teachings)
but don’t you think things were also kept hidden from us by the leaders, that possibilities exist? I will not be surprised if a manuscript will appear someday that would be proven written earlier than this find, but with same content, & maybe even detailed
in time maybe we will understand what was written in this documentary,as you call it.. let’s pray for wisdom, have the faith and an open mind, that’ll help us understand.. by the way, like some of the gospels, they weren’t written by the disciples themselves like this wasn’t written by judas himself, please don’t forget that.. so think about this, since this was written estimated 120-180 years -exact date i forgot- after judas died, how deep was the writer’s knowledge about judas and his time with Christ? maaring nagpasalin-salin na ang pagkukuwento, di ba?
but hey, don’t be too hard on judas..he was chosen to do the betrayel just like peter’s denial was already known even before it happened! destined tayong lahat. and his suicide proved his humanity..he had guilt and shame, don’t you think he loved Christ too?
not all of us have to accept this find, what’s important is Christ’s role in our lives.

after i wrote this entry, i had an opportunity to watch the documentary on national geographic. gusto ko sana gumawa ng follow-up entry kaso tinamad na ako. hehe.
the scholars proved that the document is 1800 years old but i think no one has yet validated the truth written on the document. as we coin it, if it is “God-breathed”?
pero tama ka. maaring this was kept from us by the church leaders for fear of conflict. anyway, history is written by those who won wars and so we cannot expect an unbiased story.
after kong mapanood ito sa national geographic nasabi kong posibleng totoo yung event na nakasulat. judas was indeed the reason why Christ was brought to be crucified pero alam nating lahat that it has to happen in a way or another. na maaring judas was born for that purpose.
i believe in predestination pero nahihirapan akong i accept that a loving and just God predestined judas to such fate. but after understanding the gospel of judas, nakakita ako ng bagong explanation on his predicament. and i could say that it is a more acceptable one.

I am not convince that that was all there is to it. you said you’ve seen the documentary film and so you’ve seen as well, how parts of the manuscript were crushed to pieces!! paano na yung mga parts na naging alikabok na sa vault (in new york) di ba? how could have they ‘translated’ something which wasn’t there?
ahh, dito na lalabas ang talagang interesting part….where do believers stand now? challenging brother, simply challenging!
pero sana marami pang follow ups ang lumabas regarding this find, coz I for one, wants to know the real deal
btw, if we can all understand how God’s magnificent mind works, eh di wala na tayong kaibahan from Him di ba? my take is judas was picked (cge, i’ll not use the word ‘destiny’ na, mabigat nga) to carry out the ‘betrayel’ because probably he was the one who had the backbone to do it. si pedro kasi nerbyoso eh and God might have seen the others not suitable as well…o di ba? maraming posibilidad, sayang nga lang we weren’t there…ano kaya kung may time travel, are you willing to go back to find things out?

hindi ko napanood yung buong documentary kasi nakatulog ako sa bandang gitna. ng nagising ako nandun na sila sa part na nire-reveal na nila yung content. so i wasnt able to watch the whole restoration process.
yes there were parts that were crushed.. kaya kung mababasa nyo yung translated document may mga parts dun na naka note how many estimated lines were missing.
hindi ko pa alam ang stand ng christendom pero the pope refuses to recognize the manuscript.
yes maraming possibility, unlimited kung tutuusin.
